Description

VF Details 1808 Quarter Eagle, BD-1
Challenging Type Issue
Worthy Example

1808 $2 1/2 -- Cleaning -- PCGS Genuine. VF Details. BD-1, R.4. The quarter eagle was a neglected denomination through most of its early history, and two of the most challenging type coins fall under that umbrella: the 1796 No Stars quarter eagle and the 1808 Capped Bust to Left two and a half. Collectors may quibble over the 1796 No Stars as a separate type, but there is little "wiggle room" around the 1808 quarter eagle, which is the sole use of John Reich's Draped Bust obverse on the denomination. While this moderately worn coin does have a degree of artificial brightness from a past cleaning, the butter-yellow surfaces largely have mellowed, and this is a "capstone" piece that many collectors would be proud to own.(Registry values: P8) (NGC ID# BFVZ, PCGS# 7660)
