Description

Rare Choice AU 1825 Quarter Eagle

1825 $2 1/2 AU55 PCGS. Breen-6128, Bass-3021, R.4. One of three die varieties for the year. The 5 in the date is low and leans awkwardly to the left, while the fraction is centered below the arrow feather. There is a short pinscratch in the field above the cap, and a speck of debris near 2 o'clock on the reverse. The obverse is well struck, as is the eagle's plumage. Slight softness of strike is only noted on portions of the shield. The luster is prooflike and very extensive, and only a hint of rub on the cheek precludes a Mint State designation. Capped Bust Left Quarter Eagles are rare as a type in all grades, and are always in demand from both specialists and type set collectors. (NGC ID# 25FG, PCGS# 7664)
