1825 $2 1/2
Mint State 1825 Quarter Eagle1825 MS 60 NGC. Even though the 1825 has a mintage of only 4,434 pieces, it is the most available issue of the type, which says a great deal about the absolute and relative rarity of Capped Head Left quarter eagles as a series. This piece is above average for surviving examples of this year. The striking quality is strong with none of the central softness seen on some examples. The fields are prooflike, as is often the case, and the basic green-gold color of the coin has taken on a slight accent of coppery-reddish patina around the devices. Numerous small abrasions are scattered across each side with the only detracting ones being a scratch in the left obverse field and a small cluster of pinprick abrasions below the eagle's right (facing) wing. A heavy, vertical, rim-to-rim die crack extends from just right of the first 2 in the denomination on the reverse to just right of the first T in STATES. (NGC ID# 25FG, PCGS# 7664)
