1825 $2 1/2
Prooflike Choice AU 1825 Quarter Eagle1825 $2 1/2 AU 55 PCGS. While considered the most "common" date of the type, only 4,434 pieces were struck, which, of course, makes the 1825 anything but common in absolute terms. While most 1825 quarter eagles are softly struck in the centers, this piece is very well brought up with complete hair detail on Liberty and nearly complete plumage on the eagle. The fields are bright and prooflike, giving the piece a pleasing overall appearance. When closely examined, each side displays numerous small handling marks from its short time in circulation. The most obvious marks are a small tick on the point of the truncation of the bust, and two tiny hits on the reverse--one across the F in OF and another above the N in UNUM. A lovely representative of this challenging gold type.
