Description

Near-Mint 1829 Capped Bust Quarter Eagle

1829 $2 1/2 AU55 PCGS. Bass-3026, Breen-6132, R.4. The yellow-gold surfaces exhibit a fresh, original appearance. The fields are partially reflective, and the devices exhibit the exactness of strike that typifies many extant 1829 quarter eagles. Both sides are lightly abraded, but the number of distractions is minimal for a circulated example. This year saw the initial striking of reduced size Capped Head Left quarter eagles. Of the 3,403 pieces produced, no more than 125 coins are believed extant. Most survivors grade AU or Mint State, suggesting that examples of this issue may have been preserved as novelty items.
