Borderline Uncirculated 1830 Quarter Eagle1830 $2 1/2 AU58 NGC. Only one die pairing was used to strike the 1830 Quarter Eagle, and it is identified by a repunched I in AMERICA combined with a final star distant from the border. All Capped Bust Quarter Eagles are rarities, and the 1830 is no exception. A stingy mintage of 4,540 pieces was depleted by melting on both sides of the Atlantic, since the bullion value exceeded face, even at the time of issue. Well struck save for the left border of the eagle's shield, this sunrise gold example has faint friction on the cheekbone and an unimportant rim ding at 6 o'clock. Population: 17 in 58, 22 finer (3/05).(#7670) (Registry values: P4) (NGC ID# 25FL, PCGS# 7670)
