Description:
Refreshingly Original 1830 Quarter Eagle, AU58
1830 $2 1/2 AU58 PCGS. BD-1, R.4. Bass and Dannreuther suggest that less than 100 1830 quarter eagles are extant in all grades. Considering their low mintage of 4,540 pieces, and the fact that many old tenor gold coins were melted after July 31, 1834--the result of a weight reduction for our nation's gold coinage--the estimated number of survivors is understandable. This example saw brief circulation, as evinced by light luster breaks in the fields. Ample luster remains elsewhere and a pleasing orange-gold patina blankets each side. An early quarter eagle for those who appreciate originality. Population: 12 in 58, 35 finer (11/08).(Registry values: P4) (NGC ID# 25FL, PCGS# 7670)
