Description:
PCGS 1831 AU 50. A lightly circulated example of this rare Capped Bust quarter eagle (of which we have two in this auction!). The fields are prooflike, as invariably seen, and the surfaces have taken on a rich reddish patina toward the rims. Well struck throughout with the only noticeable softness observed at the juncture of the eagle's breast and the left side of the shield (as with the next lot). There is one distinctive cut under Liberty's eye on the obverse, and a pair of field marks on the reverse, one on each side of the eagle's head. (NGC ID# 25FM, PCGS# 7671)
