1796 25C Fine 12 PCGS....
Fine 12 1796 Quarter, B-21796 25C Fine 12 PCGS. B-2, R.3. Distinguished from the scarcer B-1 by the proximity of star 8 to the L in LIBERTY, in addition to other diagnostics. Richly toned in sea-green, powder-blue, lemon, and plum-mauve. Although the eagle's breast is worn, the wings display pleasing feather definition, and the lower hair curls exhibit some detail. The dentils, stars, legends, and other peripheral elements are clear. The 1796 is important as the first date of the quarter denomination, aside from uncollectible 1792 patterns. It is also the only date with a Small Eagle reverse. Bullion depositors of the day preferred to be paid in silver dollars, which required fewer coins to count and stack. Encapsulated in an old green label holder.
