Description

Appealing 1796 B-2 Quarter, VF35

1796 25C VF35 PCGS. B-2, R.3. The variety with the high 6, nearly touching the drapery, is more plentiful than the low 6 variety, although neither variety is seen with any frequency. As the first year of issue for the denomination and the only year for the Small Eagle reverse design type, this issue receives extraordinary demand from type collectors on top of its importance to date and variety collectors.
The example offered here is remarkable for its preservation. It is finer than usually encountered, and incredibly, exhibits no problems other than the usual minor hairlines and abrasions received from circulation. The silver-gray fields darken to steel-gray near the borders, with lighter gray devices. Traces of pale blue and iridescent toning add to its eye appeal.(Registry values: P7) (NGC ID# 23RA, PCGS# 5310)
