Description:
Rare 1796 'Low 6' B-1 Quarter VG10
1796 25C VG10 NGC. B-1, R.5. Low 6, Small Eagle. This is an example of the rare Low 6 variety, and as such it is many times rarer than the more commonly encountered B-2 1796 quarter. Struck from a late state of the dies, this piece also shows a heavy die crack that extends downward from the rim to the upright of the E in LIBERTY. This example is well centered, with bold dentilation throughout the obverse rim and on about half of the reverse rim. All of the designs and legends are clear and the coin is largely distraction-free, aside from a few faint pinscratches seen on the obverse portrait only under a loupe. The B-1 attribution is marked on the NGC slab. This represents a rare opportunity to obtain an affordable, yet clear example of this rare variety within a popular and already rare single-year type.
