1796 Quarter, B-2, Choice Very Good
Sharply Detailed Centers

1796 25C VG10 PCGS. B-2, R.3. High 6. The last star, star 13, is further away from the drapery than on the Low 6 B-1, somewhat rarer at R.4 although the 1796 quarter is usually collected for its first-year type status rather than to obtain one example of each variety. This Choice Very Good example shows all major devices and stars on the obverse, although the dentils at the periphery are weakest from 6 to 7 o'clock and 11 to 3. Some of the deepest individual strands in Liberty's hair are visible, and the date and LIBERTY are bold. Faint planchet adjustment marks run from the obverse rim through TY and the upper hair. The reverse legends are all visible, although OF can barely be made out and the dentilation is again weak, but the central details show a good amount of detail remaining. This deep silver-gray piece shows scattered contact marks on each side, as expected, but will nonetheless form a satisfying cornerstone to a fine type set.(Registry values: P7) (NGC ID# 23RA, PCGS# 5310)
