Scarce First Issue 1796 Quarter VG8 PCGS, B-2, R.3.1796 25C VG8 PCGS. B-2, R.3. The 1796 quarter is a one-year type, and, as such, is necessary for the completion of a type set of U.S. coinage. Only 6,146 pieces were coined, from two obverse dies and a single reverse die. The example in this lot, the more common B-2 variety, displays the usually seen well centered motifs and bold dentilation on both sides. Whispers of pale lilac-gray toning overlay smooth surfaces that reveal a few moderate circulation marks, some wispy pinscratches, and even wear on both sides. No adjustment marks are evident. The level of detail on the design elements seems commensurate with the assigned grade level.(Registry values: P7) (NGC ID# 23RA, PCGS# 5310)
