Description

Desirable 1796 Quarter, XF40 NGC

1796 25C XF40 NGC. High 6. B-2, R.3. The 1796 Draped Bust, Small Eagle quarter is always popular with collectors and investors alike, since it is not only the first year of issue for the quarter dollar denomination, but it is also a one-year type coin. The reverse design was changed in 1804, the next year of issue, to the Heraldic Eagle reverse. The present example is an attractive, well balanced copper-gray representative, perfectly centered, with strong dentils around both sides. Faint mint luster still radiates from the surfaces, and examination under a loupe reveals no marks worthy of singular mention. The eagle's head and clouds below show the characteristic softness always found on the reverse of the B-2, the more common of the two varieties for the year. A desirable coin sure to appeal to a number of audiences.(Registry values: P7) (NGC ID# 23RA, PCGS# 5310)
