Description:
Gem Broadstruck 1883-O Silver Dollar
1883-O $1 Morgan Dollar -- Broadstruck Out of Collar -- MS65 PCGS. The collar die was blocked or otherwise disengaged when this New Orleans Morgan was struck. The dentils and peripheral legends show the stretching associated with the broadstrike error type. The centers have the needle-sharp definition seen only on broadstrikes, since the dies were allowed to press closely without the constraint of a collar. An arc of unstruck metal is widest at 9:30. The preservation is simply outstanding. Lustrous with light almond-gold toning.
Ex: Pittsburgh Signature (Heritage, 8/2004), lot 8377, which realized $1,667.50.(Registry values: P1, N208) (NGC ID# 254J, PCGS# 7146)
