1961 Half Struck on a Split Planchet1961 50C Franklin Half--Struck on a 6 gram Split Planchet--MS60 PCGS. Compare this piece to the 1952 nickels that are also split planchets. Each are split planchet errors, but the nickel fell apart after striking as one can tell from the strong striking details. On this half dollar, the planchet split prior to striking and did not strike up completely on either side simply because there was not enough metal to fill in the recesses of the die. The coin shows surprisingly good luster, all things considered, and there is a bit of color surrounding the margins.(Registry values: N1) (NGC ID# 24TN, PCGS# 6680)
