Description:
1964-D 5C Jefferson Nickel--Struck on a 3.7 gram Copper Planchet--AU50 PCGS. Since Lincoln Cents from the era weigh 2.5 grams, a planchet intended for a foreign coin (perhaps a Philippines Five Centavos) served as the host for this interesting lavender-brown piece. Although graded AU50 by PCGS, the surfaces are as smooth as on a Mint State piece, and it appears that the soft strike on Monticello has been conservatively assessed.(#4076) (Registry values: N1) (NGC ID# 22VH, PCGS# 4076)
