Description:
Flipover Double Struck 1984 Nickel
1984-P 5C Nickel--Flipover Double Strike--MS62 PCGS. A flipover double strike, with the second strike 80% off center. The first strike was normal, but the coin was not fully ejected from the dies. The coin flipped over and was struck again. This second strike was 80% off center at 7 o'clock on the obverse, affecting most of E PLURIBUS UNUM from the initial strike. The second strike has portions of the legend IN GOD WE TRUST from the obverse die. The second strike did not involve the reverse die, as it was covered with a new planchet. Instead, the obverse from the first strike is distorted where it met the planchet upon the second strike. Both sides have numerous trivial contact marks. (NGC ID# 22WN, PCGS# 4112)

Needless to say I was overwhelmed by the results of the auction and I truly believe it was Jill’s efforts in promoting and displaying the piece that brought in the extra value.
