Description

Finest Known 1954-D Half Dollar, MS67 NGC

1954-D 50C MS67 NGC. The '54-D half is readily available in grades through MS65. It becomes rare above that level, as evidenced by the combined NGC and PCGS population reports that show only twenty pieces graded higher. The MS67 coin offered in this lot is the single highest-graded specimen from either service to date (1/05). As such, it is sure to see spirited competition among connoisseurs of Franklin half dollars. Both sides are awash in radiant luster, overlain by low to medium-intensity multicolored toning consisting of mottled aquamarine, lime-green, yellow-gold, pale-purple, and crimson colors. The design elements are well struck, with the bell lines showing almost full definition. The surfaces are impeccably preserved, reveling no significant contact marks. The coin exudes tremendous all-around eye appeal, and will certainly enhance a high-grade Franklin half collection. Population: 1 in 67, none finer (1/05).

The Draped Bust Half Dollars of 1796-1797 by Jon Amato

The Draped Bust Half Dollars of 1796-1797 by Jon Amato is the culmination of more than 10 years of research into the Draped Bust Small Eagle half dollar series, one of the most coveted type coins in American numismatics and one about which remarkably little has been written.

This work will be the premier reference for 1796-1797 half dollars for years to come. Institutions having an extensive numismatic library or coin cabinet will find it a valuable complement to their holdings, and catalogers charged with writing up specimens for auction can now have an indispensable source of background and pedigree information. Likewise, coin dealers seeking to purchase one or more '96 or '97 half dollars for a client or for inventory, and collectors who own, have owned, or desire to own one will want this important reference work for their libraries.
