Description

1836 Judd-60 Gobrecht Dollar, PR30
Die Alignment I, Light Gray Patina

1836 P$1 Name on Base, Judd-60 Original, Pollock-65, R.1, PR30 NGC. Silver. Plain Edge. No Stars Obverse, Stars Reverse. Die Alignment I (the center of Liberty's head is opposite the O in DOLLAR). There is no trace of the diagonal die clash on the reverse, placing this piece among the 400 dollars struck first in the final week of December in 1836. The devices show even high-point friction from circulation, yet the fields retain a glimmer still of the original proof finish. Numerous small handling marks are scattered over each side, with a few larger marks and one shallow scratch reserved for the reverse. The surfaces are light gray with a faint presence of reddish patina. (PCGS# 11225)
