Description:
Exceptional PR58 Judd-60 Restrike 1836 Gobrecht Dollar
1836 PS$1 Name on Base, Judd-60 Restrike, Pollock-65, R.5, PR58 NGC. Die Alignment IV. Plain Edge. Silver. Struck in March 1837. This series was struck beginning in Die Alignment II, but the reverse die apparently rotated and it slowly progressed from Die Alignment II (eagle flying at an angle) to Die Alignment IV (eagle level). The mintage of 1837 coins (but obviously dated 1836) was 600 pieces, and it is estimated that two-thirds of these were produced in Die Alignment IV. This is an exceptionally attractive coin that shows just the slightest trace of friction. Much brilliance is still evident beneath the light gray toning that is seen over each side. Regardless of grade, this is one of the most attractive 1836 Gobrecht dollars we have offered recently. (PCGS# 11227)
