Description

1849-C Gold Dollar, MS64
Closed Wreath
Tied for Finest Certified

1849-C G$1 Closed Wreath MS64 NGC. Variety 1. The two major 1849-C gold dollar types, the Open Wreath and the Closed Wreath, are each designated as Variety 1. This Closed Wreath type, from just one die pair, is quite rare, although it almost seems commonplace next to the Open Wreath. Both sides of this Choice Mint State specimen are highly lustrous with incredible eye appeal. The strike is bold with crisp hair and leaf details. Splashes of violet and rose toning appear on each side, concentrated near the borders. A few scattered surface marks prevent a higher, currently unknown grade. Census: 2 in 64, 0 finer (6/12).(Registry values: N7079) (NGC ID# 25BC, PCGS# 7505)
