Description

1849 No L Gold Dollar, MS65
Conditionally Scarce in Gem and Finer

1849 G$1 No L MS65 PCGS. CAC. The widely repunched star pair beneath the bust identifies the No L variety, even before the truncation is checked for the presence of Longacre's initial. Mintage estimates of the 1849 No L gold dollar range from 1,000+ (Garrett and Guth) to 10,000 or more (Bowers). Not surprisingly, numismatic authors also differ on the scarcity of this issue. Nevertheless, it is conditionally scarce in Gem and finer grades.

This Gem offering displays lustrous yellow-gold surfaces, and all design elements are well brought up, including the detail in Liberty's hair, the star centrils, and the letters and beads of the crown. Both sides have been well cared for. This piece is well deserving of the CAC label. Population: 29 in 65, 10 finer (2/13).(Registry values: P4) (NGC ID# 25B7, PCGS# 7501)
