Description

1853 Gold Dollar, MS67
Optimal Type Coin

1853 G$1 MS67 NGC. Due to the gold-silver imbalances created by the California Gold Rush of 1849 and after -- gold was cheap, silver hoarded -- the gold dollars of 1853 were made in large numbers, as silver coins had ceased to circulate, and the one dollar gold was basically the lowest precious-metal circulating denomination. It would take a reduction in the net silver content of minor coinage before silver would again flow through the channels of commerce. More than 4 million gold dollars were struck in 1853, and its large survival today makes it the ideal type coin. The present Superb Gem is deep reddish-gold, dripping with mint luster, and free of even the smallest distractions. Another bonus: The strike is full throughout both sides. Census: 9 in 67, 0 finer (3/13).

The way you grouped lots, photographed, and presented the material was too notch. I was impressed that you took the time to attribute coins to the Krause reference as their "plate coin" and that many of your descriptions included pertinent facts and infor
