Description:
Superb Gem 1853 Gold Dollar
Near-Perfect Surface Preservation
1853 G$1 MS67 PCGS. CAC. The design elements are remarkably well struck on both sides of this lovely little jewel. Even LA in DOLLAR is nearly completely formed. Gleaming mint frost illuminates the yellow-gold surfaces, which reveal fine-grained field textures and near-perfect preservation. As Garrett and Guth observe in Encyclopedia of U.S. Gold Coins (2008), the 1853 is by far the most common date in the gold dollar series. In Superb Gem condition, however, the issue becomes exceedingly scarce, and precious few have been so graded by the two major services. It seems like a foregone conclusion that such a pleasing, high-grade specimen will generate considerable attention when it crosses the auction block. Population: 6 in 67, 5 finer (11/11).(Registry values: N7079) (NGC ID# 25BU, PCGS# 7521)
