Description

1854 Type Two Gold Dollar, MS64
Popular First Year of Type

1854 G$1 Type Two MS64 NGC. CAC. The 1854 gold dollar represents the first year of the larger diameter Type Two design, and claims a substantial mintage of 783,943 pieces. The short-lived Type Two design was only produced from 1854-1856, and Mint State examples are always in demand as type coins. The coin offered here is a pleasing Choice specimen, with well-detailed design elements and vibrant satiny mint luster. The attractive yellow and rose-gold surfaces show few signs of contact, but both sides display interesting clash marks. The 1854 is scarce in MS64 condition, and NGC has graded only 36 numerically finer coins (5/12).(Registry values: N7079) (NGC ID# 25C3, PCGS# 7531)
