Description:
1856 One Dollar Gold, MS65 PCGS
1856 G$1 Slanted 5 MS65 PCGS. The 1856 has the highest mintage of any Type Three Gold Dollar and literally hundreds of pieces remain in Mint State. Unlike many of the low mintage dates that follow, the quality of these Uncirculated survivors is hardly consistent and even an MS64 can be difficult to acquire. In looking back over several years of our auction records, we could not find even a single offering above the MS65 level. This wonderfully preserved, satiny Gem, boasts a strong strike, pale green-gold patina and is virtually free from signs of contact with other coins. The quality, needless to say, is nearly unsurpassable.(#7540) (Registry values: N2998) (NGC ID# 25C9, PCGS# 7540)
