Description:
Low-Mintage 1859-C Gold Dollar, AU58
Last-Year Charlotte Issue, 5,235 Struck
1859-C G$1 AU58 NGC. The final-year Charlotte Mint gold dollar issue, the 1859-C was struck to the tiny extent of only 5,235 pieces. The denticles on this near-Mint piece are missing on the obverse from about 1:30 to 10:30, as usual for this poorly produced emission. The reverse is in similar shape, with even more rim weakness and much porosity in the area next to the rim. The central strike is quite weak on the reverse but acceptable in the central obverse. The grading is by the considerable luster remaining. Census: 26 in 58, 22 finer (7/12).
