Outstanding 1872 Gold Dollar, MS 671872 MS 67 PCGS. Formerly offered as lot 7920 from our January FUN Sale, where it was described as: "This issue is scarce in any grade, courtesy of the low mintage of only 3,500 pieces. High grade coins are accordingly even more rarely encountered. This is one of only 5 pieces certified MS 67 by PCGS, with none higher (10/98). In short, we have the highest condition in a coin of the greatest rarity. This is a lovely piece with bright fields and sufficient underlying luster to be deemed semi-prooflike. The considerable orange-gold color shimmering in the fields has some blue highlights, and contrasts with the more satiny head of the princess. The reverse fields are equally prooflike. For sheer eye appeal, it would be difficult to ever improve upon this coin."
