Remarkably High Grade 1793 Half Cent AU501793 1/2 C AU50 PCGS. C-2, B-2, R.3. This coin represents the first year of production at the minting facility in Philadelphia, as well as the first issue of the half cent denomination. This first-year issue was based on the Libertas Americana medal from 1783, and it is unknown why this lovely design was discontinued after only one year. Few have survived in high grades due to extensive circulation of the 35,334 pieces originally made. This coin is remarkably well preserved in spite of a few rim dings and it has a rich, glossy red-brown color overall with a smidgen of original mint red. The reverse is rotated about 35 degrees to the right. EAC 20.(Registry values: P8) (NGC ID# 2222, PCGS# 1000)
