Description

1793 Half Cent, C-3, VF20
Original Surfaces

1793 1/2 C VF20 PCGS. B-3, C-3, R.3. Many numismatists have a soft spot in their heart for America's 1793-dated copper coinage, whether cents or half cents. The "old coppers" have a certain allure even among those who choose not to collect them. The year 1793 stands out as that in which the first-year Mint struck only copper coins, due to bureaucratic obstacles. The "little sisters" half cents of 1793 are prized, with four die marriages known that are about equally available, but all in demand. This Very Fine example of the Cohen-3 marriage shows the moderate wear expected; buildup appears in some of the peripheral letters and the date on the obverse and in the wreath on the reverse. The surfaces are reddish-brown overall with glints of olive, a strictly original look. Certified in a green-label holder. Our EAC grade Fine 12.(Registry values: P8) (NGC ID# 2222, PCGS# 1000)
