Description

Late State 1804 C-9 Half Cent

1804 1/2 C Crosslet 4, With Stems. C-9, B-8, R.2. Die State 4. AU58 NGC. VF30 EAC. Wide date, 4 centered; Close fraction, ridge at R. The scarce later die state with a rim break over RTY, although even later die states do exist. This example is also finer than most late die state coins known. Despite the relatively common nature of the variety overall, only one or two Mint State examples exist. The surfaces are pleasing with dark chocolate-brown color. Lighter tan, faded from original red mint color, is visible in the protected areas around devices. A few minor surface marks are visible on both sides. Such marks are the norm, and not the exception, on these 200 year old copper coins. Envelope Included.(Registry values: P4) (NGC ID# 222F, PCGS# 1069)
