Description

1804 C-13 Half Cent, Gem Red and Brown
Only One Finer Certified Specimen

1804 1/2 C Plain 4, No Stems MS65 Red and Brown NGC. C-13, B-10, R.1. The Plain 4, No Stems type is the most plentiful of the various 1804 issues in Mint State grades, yet it remains elusive with red and brown color. In fact, all Draped Bust half cents are scarce or rare in such preservation, regardless of the date. Even the 1806 C-4 half cent -- the most plentiful of the entire type -- is seldom seen as nice as this piece.
This delightful Gem example displays considerable original orange mint brilliance, blended with pleasing medium brown accompanied by hints of blue and violet iridescence. The design features are nearly full, showing excellent definition in the drapery and hair, as well as nearly full venation in the wreath. Census: 4 in 65 Red and Brown, 1 finer (2/11). MRB MS63.
Ex: The Madison Collection (Heritage, 1/2008), lot 2658, which realized $14,950.(Registry values: P4) (PCGS# 1064)

Today I received the catalog which is a work of art unto itself. When I found my lot I was literally blown away by what Craig had done with the presentation....... quite amazing to say the least!
