Description:
Exceedingly Rare 1831 Original Half Cent
1831 1/2 C VF35 Original PCGS. B-1, C-1, High R.6. Medium-brown color overlays each side with hints of antique-golden intermixed. The surfaces are free of all but the most trivial marks, however, some light green verdigris is noted in the most protected areas on the reverse. Identifiable by a deep red toning spot in the left obverse field between stars 3 and 4 and Liberty's mouth. Otherwise, the surfaces and color are average for a circulated coin. What isn't average is the date--1831--which conjures up memories of years of searching for an acceptable example, and searching through auction sale after sale to findany offerings. Perhaps a total of 20 or so example of Original 1831 Half Cents are known in all grades. Population: 1 in 35, 3 finer (10/05).(#1156) (Registry values: P8) (PCGS# 1156)
