Description:
1907 Flat Rim High Relief, MS64
Rich, Satiny Mint Luster
1907 $20 High Relief, Flat Rim MS64 NGC. CAC. This Flat Rim is so very close to being complete around each side -- just a bit of extruded metal can be seen on the left side of the reverse. This "fin" or "burr" in Mint parlance, was the source of much distress to Mint Director Frank Leach. He gave specific orders that it be eliminated, but even after die and collar adjustments were made few High Reliefs were actually produced with a completely flat rim. This is a magnificent example of the High Relief, one that displays the bright, satiny mint luster these coins are so well known for. The color is rich yellow-gold with almost none of the usually seen reddish patina. Of course, no marks are present that are worthy of mention.(Registry values: N7079) (PCGS# 9136)

The Coinage of Augustus Saint-Gaudens as Illustrated by the Morse and Duckor Collections
Revised Edition by James L. Halperin, Mark R. Borckardt, Mark Van Winkle, Jon Amato, and Gregory J. Rohan, with special contributor David W. Akers

The Coinage of Augustus Saint-Gaudens is an issue-by-issue examination of these two artistically inspired series of gold coins. Each date and mintmark is reviewed with up-to-date information, much of which has never been previously published. The book is based on two extraordinary collections: The Phillip H. Morse collection and the Dr. and Mrs. Steven L. Duckor collection.
