Description:
1907 Saint-Gaudens Double Eagle, MS64
High Relief, Wire Rim Variant
1907 $20 High Relief, Wire Rim MS64 PCGS. The 1907 Saint-Gaudens High Relief double eagle has been acknowledged as America's most beautiful regular-issue coinage design since its debut in 1907. The aesthetic beauty of the design and its limited mintage of 12,367 pieces ensures its unending popularity with numismatists of all disciplines, and collectors who own no other gold coins avidly seek examples of this iconic issue.

Although not indicated on the holder, this attractive Choice specimen exhibits a wire rim around part of the edge on both sides. This feature was caused by metal extruding through the narrow gap between the collar and the die when the coin was struck. The central design elements are sharply detailed and the lustrous reddish-gold surfaces show only minor signs of contact. Housed in a green label holder.(Registry values: N7079) (NGC ID# 26F2, PCGS# 9135)

The Coinage of Augustus Saint-Gaudens as Illustrated by the Morse and Duckor Collections
Revised Edition by James L. Halperin, Mark R. Borckardt, Mark Van Winkle, Jon Amato, and Gregory J. Rohan, with special contributor David W. Akers

The Coinage of Augustus Saint-Gaudens is an issue-by-issue examination of these two artistically inspired series of gold coins. Each date and mintmark is reviewed with up-to-date information, much of which has never been previously published. The book is based on two extraordinary collections: The Phillip H. Morse collection and the Dr. and Mrs. Steven L. Duckor collection.
