Description:
1870 Indian Cent, MS66 Red
A Condition Rarity
1870 1C MS66 Red PCGS. Bold N over Shallow N. Premium Gem examples of this date are eagerly sought in full red and seldom found. Here, lighter red fields transition to a deeper red center. The sharp strike is worthy of the grade and an intense burst of color on the central portrait imbues the obverse with great character. Very likely, this coin is in the Condition Census for the date. PCGS has graded five in MS66 Red and none higher. NGC has yet to grade a coin above MS65 Red. For variety collectors, the reverse shows the Bold N over Shallow N where there is a visible remake of the die, appearing most clearly on the rather crude, reworked upright of the N in ONE. A memorable cent for the advanced collector and a seldom encountered opportunity to acquire a possible Condition Census representative of the date.
