Description

1877 Indian Cent, MS64 Red
Very Scarce With Full Red Surfaces

1877 1C MS64 Red PCGS. Only 852,500 pieces were struck of the 1877 Indian cent -- the second lowest mintage of the series and by far the most difficult date to locate in all grades. In Uncirculated grades, the 1877 is a very challenging coin as the date is needed by so many collectors of this popular 19th century series. This piece has original orange-red mint luster with the occasional deeper spot of color here and there. The striking details are soft and somewhat irregular as the coin appears to have been struck from misaligned dies with softer definition on the lower obverse and upper reverse while the upper obverse and lower reverse are quite strong.
Ex: Dallas Signature (Heritage, 12/2004), lot 5094; ANA Signature (Heritage, 8/2004), lot 5176; Long Beach Signature (Heritage, 2/2005), lot 5230.(Registry values: N4719) (NGC ID# 2284, PCGS# 2129)
