Description:

No Periods 1907 Saint-Gaudens Ten
Magnificent MS66+
1907 $10 No Periods MS66+ NGC. Aside from the select few who received Wire Rim or Rolled Rim examples, the first Saint-Gaudens eagle for most who owned one was a lower-relief No Periods example. Many of the first (1907) issue were saved as novelties, which might have been what kept this MS66+ example so well-preserved from its creation to the present. The interiors have bright wheat-gold luster with apricot overtones. The hair over Liberty's ear has a soft appearance as usual, but the eagle's wing is sharp. A small rim defect just south of 3 o'clock on the obverse is the only obstacle to a fully Superb Gem designation. Census: 8 in 66+, 31 finer (5/11).(Registry values: N4719) (NGC ID# 28GF, PCGS# 8852)

The Coinage of Augustus Saint-Gaudens as Illustrated by the Morse and Duckor Collections
Revised Edition by James L. Halperin, Mark R. Borckardt, Mark Van Winkle, Jon Amato, and Gregory J. Rohan, with special contributor David W. Akers

The Coinage of Augustus Saint-Gaudens is an issue-by-issue examination of these two artistically inspired series of gold coins. Each date and mintmark is reviewed with up-to-date information, much of which has never been previously published. The book is based on two extraordinary collections: The Phillip H. Morse collection and the Dr. and Mrs. Steven L. Duckor collection.
