Description

Premium Gem 1907 No Periods Eagle

1907 $10 No Periods MS66 PCGS. CAC. The inaugural year of Saint-Gaudens' Indian ten dollar design is represented by three variants: the Wire Rim and Rounded Rim eagles of the With Periods type, and the current offering, the No Periods variant. The prior versions are far less available than the No Periods eagles dated 1907, or which approximately 10,000 pieces have been certified at both services, all grades considered. This example, however, is in a smaller group of high-end survivors and destined for the most discriminating of cabinets. As of (11/08), PCGS has certified 66 pieces at the MS66 level, with a mere six coins grading finer.
Distraction-free surfaces combine with uninterrupted, satiny luster to define the Premium Gem grade of this early eagle. Predominately straw-gold in color, although we note the presence of light copper toning around Ms. Liberty's profile. Outstanding eye appeal. (Registry values: N4719) (NGC ID# 28GF, PCGS# 8852)

The Coinage of Augustus Saint-Gaudens as Illustrated by the Morse and Duckor Collections
Revised Edition by James L. Halperin, Mark R. Borckardt, Mark Van Winkle, Jon Amato, and Gregory J. Rohan, with special contributor David W. Akers

The Coinage of Augustus Saint-Gaudens is an issue-by-issue examination of these two artistically inspired series of gold coins. Each date and mintmark is reviewed with up-to-date information, much of which has never been previously published. The book is based on two extraordinary collections: The Phillip H. Morse collection and the Dr. and Mrs. Steven L. Duckor collection.
