Description:
1908 Motto Indian Ten, MS66
Conditionally Rare Issue
1908 $10 Motto MS66 NGC. The design of the Indian ten dollar gold piece was modified by an act of Congress in 1908 to include the motto IN GOD WE TRUST on the reverse. The 1908 Motto Indian eagle enjoyed a substantial mintage of 341,370 pieces, and the issue remains readily available in grades up to the Choice level today. Examples in Gem condition are scarce, and Premium Gems are rare. The 1908 is popular with type collectors as the first date of the Motto design.
The present coin is a sharply detailed Premium Gem, with fine definition on Liberty's curls and the headdress feathers. The surfaces display pleasing orange-gold patina with satiny mint luster. Census: 35 in 66, 8 finer (3/11).(Registry values: N4719) (NGC ID# 28GJ, PCGS# 8859)

The Coinage of Augustus Saint-Gaudens as Illustrated by the Morse and Duckor Collections
Revised Edition by James L. Halperin, Mark R. Borckardt, Mark Van Winkle, Jon Amato, and Gregory J. Rohan, with special contributor David W. Akers

The Coinage of Augustus Saint-Gaudens is an issue-by-issue examination of these two artistically inspired series of gold coins. Each date and mintmark is reviewed with up-to-date information, much of which has never been previously published. The book is based on two extraordinary collections: The Phillip H. Morse collection and the Dr. and Mrs. Steven L. Duckor collection.
