Description:
1908-D No Motto Ten Dollar, MS63
Ex: Bass
1908-D $10 No Motto MS63 PCGS. Ex: Bass Collection. This issue was of interest to Harry Bass, as well as many others who have studied the series, because of the widely punched mintmark on the reverse. It is unlike the placement seen on any other issue in the series. The surfaces are hazy in the center of the obverse, but bright and reddish-tinted elsewhere. The mattelike texture shows no obvious abrasions.
Ex: Bass II (Bowers and Merena, 10/1999), lot 1666; previously acquired by Bass in a trade with Stanley Kesselman.(Registry values: N2998) (NGC ID# 28GH, PCGS# 8854)

The Coinage of Augustus Saint-Gaudens as Illustrated by the Morse and Duckor Collections
Revised Edition by James L. Halperin, Mark R. Borckardt, Mark Van Winkle, Jon Amato, and Gregory J. Rohan, with special contributor David W. Akers

The Coinage of Augustus Saint-Gaudens is an issue-by-issue examination of these two artistically inspired series of gold coins. Each date and mintmark is reviewed with up-to-date information, much of which has never been previously published. The book is based on two extraordinary collections: The Phillip H. Morse collection and the Dr. and Mrs. Steven L. Duckor collection.
