Description

1909-S Indian Ten Dollar
Prestigious MS65

1909-S $10 MS65 NGC. The 1909-S Indian eagle is in the top quartile of the 32-coin series in overall rarity. Collectors can only reasonably expect to obtain an example at the Gem level -- and they are rare even at that level -- as finer specimens seldom appear. NGC has seen 12 submissions in MS65 with five finer, while PCGS has certified 18 submissions at that level with seven finer -- a total of 30 with 12 finer, less duplications (10/11). It would not be surprising to discover that as few as six to eight separate pieces are certified above the Gem level. Radiant luster beams from orange-gold surfaces on this NGC-certified piece. The reverse is free of mentionable abrasions, but a couple of thin marks occur on Liberty's jawline and the obverse field nearby. Frosty luster adds to the appeal.(Registry values: N4719) (NGC ID# 28GP, PCGS# 8864)

The Coinage of Augustus Saint-Gaudens as Illustrated by the Morse and Duckor Collections
Revised Edition by James L. Halperin, Mark R. Borckardt, Mark Van Winkle, Jon Amato, and Gregory J. Rohan, with special contributor David W. Akers

The Coinage of Augustus Saint-Gaudens is an issue-by-issue examination of these two artistically inspired series of gold coins. Each date and mintmark is reviewed with up-to-date information, much of which has never been previously published. The book is based on two extraordinary collections: The Phillip H. Morse collection and the Dr. and Mrs. Steven L. Duckor collection.
