Description:

High-End 1910-D Double Eagle, MS66+
1910-D $10 MS66+ NGC. CAC. Garrett and Guth call the 1910-D "far and away the most common branch-mint Indian Head eagle with a mintage that reached well above two million coins." However available it may be in lesser grades, it is a definite condition rarity as a Premium Gem, and this coin goes a step above to the MS66+ level. Certainly it boasts Plus-worthy eye appeal, thanks to swirling yellow-gold luster with a hint of peach and a decent strike. The margins are "typically atypical" with die erosion at the margins, but the overall eye appeal is solid. A mark hidden in the front feathers of the headdress precludes Superb Gem status. Census: 2 in MS66+, 8 finer (2/11).(Registry values: N4719) (NGC ID# 28GS, PCGS# 8866)

The Coinage of Augustus Saint-Gaudens as Illustrated by the Morse and Duckor Collections
Revised Edition by James L. Halperin, Mark R. Borckardt, Mark Van Winkle, Jon Amato, and Gregory J. Rohan, with special contributor David W. Akers

The Coinage of Augustus Saint-Gaudens is an issue-by-issue examination of these two artistically inspired series of gold coins. Each date and mintmark is reviewed with up-to-date information, much of which has never been previously published. The book is based on two extraordinary collections: The Phillip H. Morse collection and the Dr. and Mrs. Steven L. Duckor collection.
