Description:

1911-D Indian Eagle, MS61
Rarest Issue of the Series in High Grades
1911-D $10 MS61 PCGS. CAC. The 1911-D ten dollar gold piece boasts an even lower mintage than its more famous quarter eagle counterpart, at a mere 30,100 pieces. As a result, the 1911-D is an elusive date, and the prime condition rarity in the series. Examples in all Mint State grades are scarce, and collectors prize MS61 coins whenever they are offered.
The present coin is an attractive MS61 specimen, with sharply detailed design elements, including fine detail on the lower headdress feathers. The surfaces are a light orange-gold color, with green highlights, and mellow frosty mint luster.(Registry values: N2998) (NGC ID# 28GU, PCGS# 8869)

The Coinage of Augustus Saint-Gaudens as Illustrated by the Morse and Duckor Collections
Revised Edition by James L. Halperin, Mark R. Borckardt, Mark Van Winkle, Jon Amato, and Gregory J. Rohan, with special contributor David W. Akers

The Coinage of Augustus Saint-Gaudens is an issue-by-issue examination of these two artistically inspired series of gold coins. Each date and mintmark is reviewed with up-to-date information, much of which has never been previously published. The book is based on two extraordinary collections: The Phillip H. Morse collection and the Dr. and Mrs. Steven L. Duckor collection.
