Description:
Beautiful Satin 1912 Eagle, MS66 NGC
1912 $10 MS66 NGC. Thick satin luster, almost matte in appearance, is immediately evident over the surfaces of this eagle, which boasts a considerable amount of attractive light rose color over its gold sheen. The strike is strong, with the exception of a bit of weakness on the highest point of the eagle's wing, as sometimes seen on this date. Surface marks are at a minimum, and the eye appeal is uncommonly high even for a coin in such a lofty grade as the present piece. Not a rare date in absolute terms by any means, yet quite rare as a Gem and obviously even more so in MS66. Only two pieces have been certified finer, one of which is the MS67 piece we offered in April 2006. This is a beautiful coin, likely destined to highlight an outstanding date or type set. Census: 18 in 66, 1 finer (11/06).(Registry values: N4719) (NGC ID# 28GW, PCGS# 8871)

The Coinage of Augustus Saint-Gaudens as Illustrated by the Morse and Duckor Collections
Revised Edition by James L. Halperin, Mark R. Borckardt, Mark Van Winkle, Jon Amato, and Gregory J. Rohan, with special contributor David W. Akers

The Coinage of Augustus Saint-Gaudens is an issue-by-issue examination of these two artistically inspired series of gold coins. Each date and mintmark is reviewed with up-to-date information, much of which has never been previously published. The book is based on two extraordinary collections: The Phillip H. Morse collection and the Dr. and Mrs. Steven L. Duckor collection.
