Description:
Condition Census 1914 Indian Eagle, An Underrated Rarity in the Series
1914 $10 MS67 PCGS. Despite its status as a product of the Philadelphia Mint, the 1914 is not one of the more common issues in the Indian Eagle series. In fact, only 151,050 pieces were originally produced, and this date is an underrated condition rarity nearly on par with the 1909. Even MS63 and MS64 examples are scarce, and Gems are downright rare. One might surmise, and rightly so, that any Superb Gem would easily qualify for Condition Census ranking. This lovely representative is one of only three MS67 examples known to NGC and PCGS, and it is unsurpassable at either grading service (3/02). The otherwise even endowment of orange-gold color yields to faint powder-blue accents in the more protected areas around the central devices. Both sides are fully frosted with an equally impressive strike that leaves no feature ill-defined. A small planchet flake (as struck) and a swirl of copper patina near the lower left obverse border are noted for pedigree purposes. (NGC ID# 28H2, PCGS# 8875)

The Coinage of Augustus Saint-Gaudens as Illustrated by the Morse and Duckor Collections
Revised Edition by James L. Halperin, Mark R. Borckardt, Mark Van Winkle, Jon Amato, and Gregory J. Rohan, with special contributor David W. Akers

The Coinage of Augustus Saint-Gaudens is an issue-by-issue examination of these two artistically inspired series of gold coins. Each date and mintmark is reviewed with up-to-date information, much of which has never been previously published. The book is based on two extraordinary collections: The Phillip H. Morse collection and the Dr. and Mrs. Steven L. Duckor collection.
