Description

MS66+ 1914-D Ten Dollar, Fully Lustrous
Well-Struck Two-Toned Surfaces

1914-D $10 MS66+ NGC. CAC. The 1914-D eagle issue is one that was well-produced and accordingly is quite popular for type purposes. Only 343,500 pieces were struck and quite a lot of them were later melted, but nice coins such as this Premium Gem still surface from time to time. The 1914-D is far less common, however, than the 1910-D. This MS66+ 1914-D shows the fine-grained mattelike surfaces for which the issue is known, fully lustrous and exceedingly well-struck with alternating reddish-gold and greenish-gold areas. Scattered ticks are minor in severity and few in number. Census: 14 in 66 (2 in 66+), 6 finer (6/12).(Registry values: N7079) (NGC ID# 28H3, PCGS# 8876)

The Coinage of Augustus Saint-Gaudens as Illustrated by the Morse and Duckor Collections
Revised Edition by James L. Halperin, Mark R. Borckardt, Mark Van Winkle, Jon Amato, and Gregory J. Rohan, with special contributor David W. Akers

The Coinage of Augustus Saint-Gaudens is an issue-by-issue examination of these two artistically inspired series of gold coins. Each date and mintmark is reviewed with up-to-date information, much of which has never been previously published. The book is based on two extraordinary collections: The Phillip H. Morse collection and the Dr. and Mrs. Steven L. Duckor collection.
