Description:
Near-Gem 1914-S Ten Dollar
Rare Any Finer
1914-S $10 MS64 PCGS. It is easy to overlook the 1914-S among the many condition rarities and low-mintage dates in the Saint-Gaudens eagle series. Yet specialists know that Gem and better representatives are hard to come by--there are just 26 in the combined certified population (10/10)--and even near-Gems such as the present piece are very scarce. This shining yellow-orange example is well struck for the type, if softly detailed at the hair over Liberty's ear, and the overall eye appeal is great for the grade. Just a few shallow horizontal ticks on the portrait preclude a finer designation.(Registry values: N4719) (NGC ID# 28H4, PCGS# 8877)

The Coinage of Augustus Saint-Gaudens as Illustrated by the Morse and Duckor Collections
Revised Edition by James L. Halperin, Mark R. Borckardt, Mark Van Winkle, Jon Amato, and Gregory J. Rohan, with special contributor David W. Akers

The Coinage of Augustus Saint-Gaudens is an issue-by-issue examination of these two artistically inspired series of gold coins. Each date and mintmark is reviewed with up-to-date information, much of which has never been previously published. The book is based on two extraordinary collections: The Phillip H. Morse collection and the Dr. and Mrs. Steven L. Duckor collection.
