Description

Conditionally Scarce 1915-S Eagle, MS62

1915-S $10 MS62 NGC. In 1915, the San Francisco Mint became the last mint to strike United States gold coins in six different denominations. The denomination with the third-highest mintage was the eagle, at a mere 59,000 pieces. The present example is well struck with yellow-orange surfaces that have pleasing luster and hints of pale pink and sea-green in the fields. Scattered marks and minor abrasions do not significantly detract from the eye appeal.
From The Clifton Rodenburg Collection.(Registry values: N2998) (NGC ID# 28H6, PCGS# 8879)

The Coinage of Augustus Saint-Gaudens as Illustrated by the Morse and Duckor Collections
Revised Edition by James L. Halperin, Mark R. Borckardt, Mark Van Winkle, Jon Amato, and Gregory J. Rohan, with special contributor David W. Akers

The Coinage of Augustus Saint-Gaudens is an issue-by-issue examination of these two artistically inspired series of gold coins. Each date and mintmark is reviewed with up-to-date information, much of which has never been previously published. The book is based on two extraordinary collections: The Phillip H. Morse collection and the Dr. and Mrs. Steven L. Duckor collection.
